Funeral services for John R Babb, 91, retired blacksmith who died late Saturday night, were held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Osborn Prairie Christian Church, conducted by Rev. Bennett Fulp with burial in the church cemetery.

Mr. Babb died at his home a mile north of Veedersburg following an illness of several months. He had been seriously ill the past three weeks. He was born Sept 10, 1867, near Covington, the son of John E. and Caroline Harbour Babb. He was married Feb 26, 1883, to Eugenia Grubb, who died in 1933. He was a member of Osborn Prairie Church. Surviving are two sons, Roy at home; Winfield, Rockford, Ill; three daughters, Mrs. Constance Wellheuser, at home; Mrs. Audrey Whiting, Mace, Ind; and Mrs. Esther Byer, Kalamazoo, Mich; 9 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.   --- transcribed by kz

Funeral services for John Reilly Babb, who died August 20, 1949 at his home one mile north of Veedersburg, were held Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at the Osborne Prairie Church with Rev. Bennett Fulp of Anderson officiating, assisted by Rev. Wilson Lovell of Attica.

  The singers were Mrs. Arch Hancock and Mrs. Jess Gross accompanied by Mrs. Willard Frazee. Mrs. Roy Bunnell gave several instrumental selections preceding the sermon.

  The pallbearers were Zearn Miles and George Whiting of Mace, Malcolm Babb of Rockford, Ill., Robert Wellheuser of Attica, and Hazen Knoch of Detroit and Marvin Abolt of Covington. Flower bearers were Mrs. Dorothea Wellheuser, Mrs. Elinor Wellheuser Abolt, Patricia Wellheuser, Olive Haynes, Kathryn Parks, Dorothy Hurd, Flora Miles and Cora Rosen. The funeral was in charge of Charles Fishero, funeral director, of Veedersburg.

  Mr. Babb would have been 92 years of age had he lived until September 10. He was born near Covington and lived his entire life in Fountain County. He was a descendent of Peter Babb, a member of one of Fountain County’s oldest pioneer families. He was married February 26, 1883 to Miss Adelaide Grubb of Stone Bluff, who passed away July 26, 1931; and most of their married life was lived in that little village where their two sons, Roy and Winfield and three daughters, Constance Wellheuser, Audrey Whiting, and Esther Brier, were born.

  Ten grandchildren, Robert Wellheuser of Attica, Jack Wellheuser of Lake Charles, Louisiana, Elinor Abolt of Covington, Patricia Wellheuser, Crawfordsville, Malcolm and Russell Babb, Donna Pihl, Jane Davis, and Janet Sharp, all of Rockville, and James Lee Wheeler of Otsego, Mich., survive; also five great grandchildren, Deanna Wellheuser, Beverly Abolt, Jerry Lee, Donna Jean and Leroy Wheeler. -S&E
